Preventing Harassment and Discrimination in the Workplace

Effective January 1, 2020, every employer in the State of Illinois, regardless of size, is now required to train all employees on sexual harassment and discrimination prevention in the workplace.

Employers will be required to train new employees within 90 days of employment.

All full-time and part-time employees will be required to repeat this training annually.  This includes seasonal employees working longer than 90 days.

I don't have an HR department, how do I conduct this training?

Many of our members are small businesses with busy schedules. While this training is important, many don't have the resources to stop all business for a day for formal training, or an HR department to conduct it. IGIA has teamed up with L & L Solutions to provide you with affordable video training that your employees can conduct as their schedule permits.

  • Video training is 40 minutes long
  • Includes a post-training assessment
  • Employers will receive monthly summary reports; stay compliant by keeping a record of all employees that have taken the training so you know when it has been completed each year in the case of an audit
  • Only $10 per participant

As a benefit to IGIA members, the employer set-up fee will be waived.

Is the training available in Spanish?

Yes!

Can't I just offer the free training?  Why do I need to keep records?

If it's not safe for my employees to gather, how can we conduct the training?

Great question!  The training from L&L Solutions is setup so that each employee can access it from a phone or tablet without needing a computer or desktop, so they wouldn’t necessarily need to do it at a computer in your office.  Once your employees have completed the training, you will have a record in your system that it has been done.  We are seeing some companies pay the employee for an extra hour of work once the training has been completed and the employer has a record of it in the system.  That way, you can give the employee time to do it on their own time and their own device.

I'm an independent contractor, do I have to complete this training?

Employers are not required to train independent contractors, but are “strongly advised” to train independent contractors who (a) work on-site at the employer’s workplace, or (b) interact with the employer’s employees.
